Equinox® Silicone Putty was originally developed as a safe veterinary hoof packing material to protect the inside of horse's hooves. It is a platinum cure non-toxic material that makes excellent library molds, and it’s perfect for casting objects that would be hard to do with liquid/pour on silicone. This is a Shore 38A Hardness silicone putty that is mix in equal proportions (1A:1B Mix Ratio) by weight or volume. Although Equinox is inhibition resistant it is definitely recommended to avoid sulpher-based modeling clays, latex products and tin-cure silicone near the putty while working with it.
This molding putty is a medium speed cure formula, and allows you to make any kind of mold that casts and cures within 40-45 minutes from when the two parts are fully mixed together. The cured molds will have an indefinite library life with unlimited castings. It's perfect to use for a wide range of impression type molding on hard surface objects. Once cured you can immediately pour materials such as resins, epoxy, plaster, concrete, waxes, soaps, low melt metals, air dry clays, even food grade ingredients such as molding chocolates, etc. as this putty complies with FDA standards for food contact.
The cured putty is very flexible and durable and great to use for making all kinds of SFX prosthetic appliances, such as prosthetic transfers, gelatin appliances, gel filled appliances, or any type of prosthetic appliance suitable medium that will pull from a properly prepared silicone mold. You can even make your own SFX texture stamps to use with clay sculptings, wax, etc.
The putty is simple to use by taking equal parts of “A” and “B”, by weight or volume, and mix the putty dough together by kneading with your fingers. You have about 4 minutes of pot time (mixing and molding time) and depending on room temperature, before the putty begins to firmly set up. It cures to a flexible rubber mold in 30 minutes, and then it’s ready for your casting material.
When casting in the cured mold we strongly suggest using a release agent appropriate to the casting material. This can be Mann Ease Release 200, MM-1313, petroleum jelly, or a plastic sealant if you are making gel filled appliances or acrylic adhesive based appliances. Casting mediums that are ideal for the silicone mold are: TraumaSkin FX™ 3-D Casualty Simulation Gelatin, MM-1301, TraumaSkin FX™ Adhesive Blending Paste, MM-1288, TraumaSkin FX™ Bondo "Cabo-Patch" Appliance Filler, MM-1196, Michael Davy Plastic Appliance and Scar Material, MM-1404, or any type of prosthetic transfer appropriate medium that will pull from a properly prepared silicone mold.
WARNING: Do NOT cast uncured liquid or paste silicone products directly into the cured silicone mold without proper mold preparation as you will risk permanent lamination of both silicone materials, and ruin the mold. This molding putty is for professional use only, and it is assumed that the buyer/user is acquainted with how to use silicone rubber putty mediums and processes.
NOTE: Please read the Technical Bulletin and directions that comes with each package of Smooth-On Equinox® Silicone Putty completely before using. Paint and Powder Cosmetics assumes no liability in how these molds or casting mediums are used or misused by the buyer/user and their associates.
