Smooth-On Slacker® Tactile Mutator
Product ID MM-1409

Smooth-On Slacker® Tactile Mutator

  • Description
Slacker® can be added in greater proportions to platinum silicones to make a silicone “gel” substance  that  can  be  used  to  create  gel-filled  silicone  prosthetic  appliances.  Gel-filled appliances are unique in that they will bend, curve and even wrinkle the way human flesh does.  The degree of softness and gel results depends on how much Slacker® is added to the silicone mix.  Always test the stability of the gel piece you make if you plan to use it in a medical application. See instructional video below:

Slacker® will produce a tacky surface when mixed at a ratio higher than 1 part A and 1 Part B of silicone mix along with 1 Part Slacker® added to it.  The amount of tackiness is proportionate to the amount of Slacker® added to the silicone mix.  Pieces created with Slacker® will not ooze silicone oil, however, and it eliminates a common problem with other silicone softening methods.   If you prefer a dry surface, you can always powder the surface with colorless non-silica powder made for appliances, such as RCMA AF Powder,
MM-1359, or RCMA Dulling Powder, MM-1358, or Smooth-On's URE-FIL® 9 - Cab-O-Sil. MM-1312.

When adding Slacker® to the silicone mix (1:1:2 or higher), the combination will cure to a texture that is tacky enough to make a self sticking appliance.  Mixing Slacker® at a higher ratio creates a gel substance that is not easily controlled without containing it in a thin sheath or casing made of silicone, such as Dragon Skin.

To encapsulate the gel for an appliance, make sure the silicone sheath material (the top surface of the appliance) blends down and out to the edge of the mold, leaving a margin around the appliance.  Smooth your silicone sheath material into the mold first, then pour in your mixture and allow to cure.  Finished appliance can be pressed directly onto skin and edges can be secured down with TraumaSkin FX™ Platinum Silicone Sculpting/Casting Medium, MM-1002, used as an adhesive, or a silicone type of adhesive, such as Telesis 5 Silicone Adhesive, MM-1105.
