Because of the superior physical properties and flexibility of Dragon Skin®, it can be used to cast prosthetics for special makeup effects, many types of durable prosthetics, orthopedic & cushioning applications, and other medical purposes. Dragon Skin® is compatible with TraumaSkin FX™ Platinum Silicone Sculpting Medium, MM-1002, as well as medical grade pressure sensitive adhesives for adhering cured silicone appliances temporarily to the skin.
Dragon Skin® is used in many special effects applications, especially animatronics where repetitive motion is required. It is water white translucent and will accept pigments, such as Smooth-On Slic Pig, MM-1188, for creating color effects. It can be mixed with a chemical thixotrophic agent, such as Thix-Sil™ additive, MM-1189, to increase the density or firmness of the cured piece. It can also be colored or textured with other physical materials, such as flocking or pigment powders added in during the catalyzing stage before it cures.
Dragon Skin® is recommended as a molding material for casting polyurethane, epoxy, polyester resins, wax, and a wide range of other casting materials. Keep in mind that silicone rubbers, such as Dragon Skin® are chemically sensitive to latex, sulpher, and certain other materials, which will cause inhibition (failure to cure properly or completely). Shore hardness is 10A, and a pot life of 20 minutes with full cure at 5 hours. Cures at room temperature (73°F / 23°C) with negligible shrinkage.
